Yo, Sly! 'Rocky' eyed for arts role
Donald Trump has promised to disrupt the way Washington works — and he may be bringing in Rambo to help him.
The president-elect is considering appointing Sylvester Stallone, 70, as chair of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
“It’s been widely and wrongly assumed that a Trump presidency will be hostile to the arts,” a source told the paper. “But Mr. Trump feels this sort of A-list appointment is precisely the shot in the arm that the industry needs.”
The “Rocky” and “Rambo” star has praised the mogul, telling Variety in January, “I love Donald Trump,” and calling him “bigger than life,” but adding, “I don’t know how that translates to running the world.”
Trump, meanwhile, announced Thursday that he would nominate adviser David Friedman, a lawyer, to be US ambassador to Israel.
“David Friedman will maintain the special relationship between our two countries,” Trump said.
Friedman said, “I intend to work tirelessly to strengthen the unbreakable bond between our two countries and advance the cause of peace within the region, and look forward to doing this from the US Embassy in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem.”
The embassy in is Tel Aviv, but Trump has said he wants to move it to Jerusalem. Such a move is likely to complicate relations with Palestinians, who see Jerusalem as a future capital of a separate state.
Trump also announced two appointments to the National Security Council: retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, as chief of staff, and ex-Fox News analyst Monica Crowley, as senior director of strategic communications.
And Omarosa Manigault, a first-season “Apprentice” contestant, has joined Trump’s transition team, it was announced.
