The NFL is expected to f i ne the Giants over Ben McAdoo using a walkie-talkie on the sideline to call plays into Eli Manning in Sunday night’s 10-7 victory over the Cowboys, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The radio transmitter in Manning’s helmet malfunctioned for a handful of plays early in the fourth quarter. McAdoo then used a walkie-talkie and relayed the plays into Manning. The Cowboys filed a formal request to the league to investigate. When using a walkie-talkie, NFL officials cannot ensure that, in compliance with league rules, the communication between the sideline and the quarterback shuts off when 15 seconds remain on the play clock.

The league is acting on the Cowboys’ request to look into the matter.

The Giants did not have a comment.

Manning said there was a problem earlier in the game with his communication with McAdoo.

“I’m kind of sitting there waiting for the play and it was a TV timeout, I went to the sideline, ‘Hey, you got a play for me?’ ’’ Manning told The Post on Thursday after practice. “He was going and I’m not hearing it. We had another minute and then it popped on right before we were gonna start.’’

Early in the fourth quarter, the system shut down entirely. Equipment personnel tried to get Manning’s backup helmet to operate, but when that did not work McAdoo was handed a walkie-talkie.

“I just wasn’t getting anything so I had to run to the sideline to get the plays,’’ Manning said. “Four plays maybe. We don’t have signals for stuff. It happened to be all run plays. If it’s pass plays [backup quarterback Ryan] Nassib or somebody could signal them to me. I had to run to the sideline, sometimes he was giving it to Odell [Beckham Jr.] right there and Odell would run to me and get the play in. Like high school.’’

The series the Giants used the walkie-talkie ended with a Manning interception.

“It’s obvious to everybody what happened and my understanding is it’s being looked into and handled,” Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ executive vice president, told reporters in Frisco, Texas. “If you’re asking me if it affected the outcome of the game? No.”
