Beatty OK waiting in the wings

-

WITH every holding penalty — it’s a one-a-game pace, if you are keeping track — and whiff on a block that puts Eli Manning in harm’s way, the outcry grows louder. Is there any alternative at left tackle to Ereck Flowers? His backup is Will Beat

ty, and the coaching staff has made it clear they have no plan to use him. Beatty was the starting left tackle for four consecutive seasons (2001-2014), but missed all of 2015 after pectoral and shoulder surgeries. Out of a job, he asked the Giants to reconsider and re-sign him and they did in late August, to a one-year, fully guaranteed $1.1 million deal.

So far, it’s been money for nothing. Beatty has played sparingly in five games, all on special teams or as an extra offensive lineman — not a single snap with the base offense.

“How am I dealing with not playing?’’ Beatty said, answering a question from The Post with another question. “Games, no I’m not playing. Practices, I’m still involved. Just trying to be the team player.

“We’re in a great position for a playoff run. This has been a long time coming for us and there are so many positive things about this team and this year and this season. Why would I want to focus on the small negatives? I’m still a part of something bigger than myself.’’

Beatty, 31, has his old locker and his old number, but that is about it. Meanwhile, Flowers — the 2015 firstround draft pick — is laboring with hand-placement and technique issues.

“The team sees a lot in him, being a first-round pick you’re kind of in a different standard than everybody else,’’ Beatty said. “He has his strengths, he has the arm length, he has the build, you see some great plays. All of it’s not what we want. You look at any tape, I can look at any of my film and be like ‘You can get better.’ When you’re sitting in this position, are we doing what it takes to win? The wins say yes. Can you be doing more? You always can be doing more.’’
