Bruised Bryce has no damage
It sounds like Bryce Petty will be all right after getting crushed by two Dolphins defenders Saturday night.
Jets coach Todd Bowles said on 98.7 ESPN Radio that Petty’s CT scan showed no structural damage. He has a bruised chest.
“His tests came back negative,” Bowles said. “We just gotta see how he is [Tuesday]. He’s sore, but he’s a lot better than we thought he would be.”
Bowles said that, depending on Petty’s health, the Jets could dress three quarterbacks against the Patriots on Saturday, meaning rookie Christian Hackenberg would be active for his first game. Ryan Fitzpatrick would likely be the No. 2 quarterback with Hackenberg as the emergency quarterback if Petty’s chest causes him to leave the game.
Petty was sandwiched by Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake on the first play of the fourth quarter. Both players came unblocked, as it looked like there was confusion about the snap count. When the ball was snapped, the offensive line barely moved.
Petty tried to return to the game, but was in too much pain. After the game, he indicated he thought he would be fine. Petty has started three games for the Jets this year. He has thrown three touchdowns and six interceptions and completed 57.7 percent of his passes.
Bowles said he would speak to Sheldon Richardson on Tuesday regarding the player’s Snapchat episode over the weekend. The profane video showed Richardson saying, “Where the ho’s at?” as well as a remark that could either be “Don’t f--k this guy” (referring to Rontez Miles) or perhaps “F--k this game.”
