Going All-In for Israel: Trump’s Ambassador Pick
I’m so delighted that President-elect Donald Trump selected David Friedman to be the new ambassador to Israel, replacing Dan Shapiro (“Too Pro-Israel?” Seth Mandel, PostOpinion, Dec. 22).
While it’s true that ambassadors have limited authority, Friedman’s background gives me high hope that Israel will have a friend and an advocate.
I’m sure that Friedman and his wife will reach out in a most positive way and will be a tremendous asset to both countries. Toby Willig Jerusalem, Israel
As a strong sympathizer of Israel, I’m still in shock over the naming of Friedman as our new ambassador to Israel.
This man is way beyond the far-right. He favors not only the annexation of the West Bank, but also a onestate solution. Worse, Friedman made the obscene comparison of American Jews who disagree with him to Jews who cooperated with the Nazis during the Holocaust.
Shame on him. Harry Waters Pompton Plains, NJ
After suffering through the ghastly terms of the last three US ambassadors to Israel — Martin Indyk, Daniel Kurtzer and Dan Shapiro — I’m very happy with the appointment of Friedman.
Our previous ambassadors all played the State Department game of endorsing the two-state solution, condemning Israeli “settlements” and considering the dividing of Jerusalem into two capitals.
I welcome Friedman as the new United States ambassador. Helen Freedman Manhattan
The vitriol directed toward Friedman is hardly surprising.
His views reflect a reality that few on the left wish to acknowledge. Israel exists within a cauldron of hatred and is often at war not only with its neighbors, but also faces threats from those who live within their borders.
Friedman’s detractors need only to look at the events unfolding throughout the Middle East in order to understand where he’s coming from. Perhaps they could have their eyes re-examined as well. Sheldon Hersh Lawrence
