Britney Spears — “Private Show”
The latest Britney comeback restored some dignity to her tumultuous career. But her album “Glory” had embarrassments such as this limp, saccharine attempt to get sexy.
Lukas Graham —“7Years”
This was mawkish, sentimental balladry from a group of anonymous Danes that seemed to fill the dour pop hole left by Ed Sheeran’s hiatus.
Lady Gaga —“Dancin’ in Circles”
The NewYorker’s muchtrumpeted follow up to “Artpop,” “Joanne,” disappointed, but this track showed something close to desperation. A poor dancehall knockoff, it featured a few lame self-pleasure lyrical references that never should have seen the light of day.
IggyAzalea —“Team”
It’s staggering that upon hearing her much-touted return track, no one around theAustralian rapper took her to one side and pointed out it sounded virtually the same as all her other big singles — only worse.
Fall Out Boy —“Ghostbusters (I’m NotAfraid)” featuring Missy Elliott
Let’s be fair: The silly theme song to the original “Ghostbusters” was barely tolerable. But after one listen to Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott’s atrocious efforts on the 2016 re-recording, Ray Parker Jr.’s first version sounds like Beethoven in comparison.
