Giants wishing for a Super new year

- steve.serby@nypost.com

ANEW YEAR awaits the Giants, a new year that brings the kind of hope and promise and excitement that the past four years did not. And as they wound down preparations for their New Year’s Day regular-season finale against the Redskins at FedEx Field, the Giants leave their True Blue fans with the Happiest New Year’s wishes imaginable. They are good at following Ben McAdoo’s onegame-at-a-time mantra, but at the same time aren’t afraid to acknowledge they are big-game hunters, with a Super ambition that supercedes any elephant in their room. Dwayne Harris was asked what his New Year’s wish to or for Giants fans would be. He thought about it at his locker and said: “Only thing I can think about is them getting a Super Bowl, that’s it.” What would you tell them? “Just keep supporting us, and we’re going to keep doing everything we’ve been doing. “And we’re going to bring the ship home for the New Year’s.” Yes, the Giants believe again. “Yeah we believe, we believe we’re going to be in there,” Harris said. “We got guys who’ve been to it, we got guys who’ve been to the playoffs, we got guys who know what it takes, and know what this playoffs is going to be about.”

Giants fans will be watching from a distance as The Good Ship McAdoo begins sailing from Landover to parts unknown next weekend.

Brad Wing was asked what his New Year’s wish to or for Giants fans would be.

“It’d be awesome if we could bring a Super Bowl trophy back here,” Wing said, “just to be a Super Bowl-winning New York Giant, it’s almost a dream that we all have.

“This city’s had it before — not too long ago as well, they’ve had a couple not too long ago, so just to kind of bring the third back here in the most recent era, I think they’d all appreciate that a lot. I think that would be the kind of best gift that old Giants Nation could ask for, is cap it off with a Super Bowl.”

Devon Kennard was asked what his New Year’s wish to or for Giants fans would be.

“Win a Super Bowl, bring it back, I think our fans deserve that,” Kennard said.

“There’s a lot of loyal Giants fans, and they’ve been around for a long time, a lot of season-ticket holders, and it’s been a while since the Giants have been to the playoffs, but the last time they were, we won, and it’d be nice to do it again.” Justin Pugh was asked what his New Year’s wish to or for Giants fans would be.

“To give ’em one helluva 2017, give them something to remember it by,” Pugh said. “Make a run. Nothing’s more exciting than a run. Give them something to cheer about.”

There had been so little to cheer about since Super Bowl XLVI. The last three years: 7-9, 6-10, 6-10. The end of the Tom Coughlin Era. And so it is easy for the Giants players to sense the fever the fan base has caught once again.

“Just excited to see us back where we belong, in the playoffs, that’s for sure,” Will Tye said.

Redskins next. Bring the ship home after that.
