Late O’Care sign-up push

- Carl Campanile

ObamaCare enrollments soared 22 percent in New York as advocates warned consumers to sign up before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

“We are not entirely sure what is going to happen to your health care options after 1/20/2017,” warned the Obamacare.net Web site.

Enrollment for this year began Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31.

Nearly 3.5 million New Yorkers were signed up as of Dec. 24, compared to 2.8 million last year.

State health officials aggressively promoted the health-insurance program through TV and radio ads and digital marketing.

About two-thirds of the 3.47 million enrollees — or 2.3 million people — qualified for Medicaid, the public health insurance program for the needy.

The Obama administra- tion also claimed that enrollment in the federal health exchange is running ahead of last year.

About 8.8 million people nationwide had signed up through Dec. 31 on the federal exchange, up from 8.6 million during the same period last year.

In all, about 20 million Americans are covered by ObamaCare policies sold through a dozen state exchanges and through the federal program.

President Obama attacked Republicans’ rush to scrap his signature health-care law.

“If you can put a plan together that is demonstrably better than what ObamaCare is doing, I will publicly support repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with your plan,” he said Friday in an interview with Vox. “But I want to see it first.”
