Hate Crime in Chicago: An Outbreak of Pure Evil

-

Let’s see: Chicago Police Commander Kevin Duffin initially said it was too early to say it was a hate crime (“Inexcusable hate crime,” Andrea Peyser, Jan. 6). Yet on the live Facebook broadcast, the alleged perpetrators were heard saying “f- -k white people” and “f- -k Donald Trump.” Hmm.

Is there something wrong with every official in Chicago?

I’m far from a genius, but wasn’t this obviously a hate crime? Why wasn’t it immediately labeled as such? Robert Friedman Long Island

Is Chicago this morally bankrupt? Do the city’s kids really not know how to act?

Seriously, does anyone really need to be taught that kidnapping and torturing a disabled person is wrong?

Chicago needs some serious help on a lot of fronts. The people running that place need to stop being intimidated into being easy on crime and doing the wrong thing because of political correctness. Richard Vaczy Manhattan

The brutal attack on a disabled man as his captors screamed “f- -k Donald Trump” is a direct result of the hatred and vilification of the presidentelect not only by the liberal media but also by elitist entertainers who do things like refuse to perform at the inauguration and plan to host a competing event instead.

By their actions and words, they encourage people to have even more hatred, which can boil over into violence. Mel Young Boca Raton

The attack on a white man by four AfricanAmericans shows just how low this country has sunk. Are people really that upset over the presidential-election results?

Is this going to continue for the next four or eight years? Will this happen every time a Republican wins the White House?

It’s time for liberals to get over Hillary Clinton’s loss and go on with their lives. If this country can survive eight years of Obama, we will survive four or eight years of Donald Trump. Bret Wallach Glen Cove

The racial, torturous treatment of the white youth in Chicago defies the acceptable boundaries of human behavior. The hatred was undeniably racial and the physical torture meant to demean.

To film activities that are intended to dehumanize an individual is morbid. The charges levied seem appropriate and, hopefully, the criminal-justice system deals with this matter firmly.

Noticeably, Attorney General Loretta Lynch has remained silent.

Given the racial nature of these attacks, additional federal civil-rights charges seem appropriate. John Gargiulo Whitestone

What these four individuals savaged upon someone with special needs goes beyond the pale of all norms of human societal structure and control. They show no sign of humanity whatsoever.

These suspects deserve the maximum punishment. Any potential plea bargain should be totally out of the question. Earl Beal Terre Haute, Ind.

One wonders if this tragedy of kidnapping, torture and mutilation would have happened if Hillary was elected instead of Trump. Skip McGrory Garden City

When will all this violence and hate speech stop? What will it take for Democrats to speak out and stop it?

If a member of the Tea Party did the same thing as these four thugs, every member of the Democratic Party would be outraged. Conrad Quagliaroli Woodstock, Ga.
