Harrison, Collins lead list of 6 Giants to earn All-Pro honors

- By MARK CANNIZZARO

More evidence of how dominant the Giants’ defense has been this season poured in Friday when the Associated Press 2016 All-Pro Team was announced and five of their defensive players were named to it, including defensive tackle Damon Harrison and safety Landon Collins on the first team.

The Giants also had four players named to the second team — receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. defensive end Olivier Vernon, and cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins and Do- minique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Harrison, who signed with the Giants as a free agent in March, led all NFL defensive tackles with a career-high 86 tackles (55 solo), nine more than runner-up Linval Joseph, a former Giant. Harrison also had a career-high 2.5 sacks, six tackles for losses and a pass defended.

Collins, a second-round draft pick in 2015, has started all 32 games in his career. This year, he led the Giants for the second season in a row with 125 tackles, a franchise record for a safety, in- cluding 100 solos. He also had four sacks, five interceptions, 13 passes defended and a fumble recovery.

Collins is the only player in NFL history to have at least 100 tackles, 100-plus solo tackles, two-plus sacks, five interceptions and 12 passes defended in a season.

Harrison and Collins are the Giants’ first AP All-Pro first-team selections since defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul in 2011.

“It’s a nice honor,’’ Harrison said. “It wasn’t my ultimate goal, but it was nice to get. We’ve still got a lot of work to do to accomplish what I want to accomplish.”

While Jenkins was removed from the injury report for Sunday’s game at Green Bay, the Giants officially ruled Pierre-Paul out. Fellow DE Owa Odighizuwa is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury. He has been limited in practice all week and didn’t participate Friday. If Odighizuwa doesn’t play, it would mean more action for rookie Romeo Okwara and Kerry Wynn. … Safety Nat Berhe appears to be out of concussion protocol. He tweeted as such, though coach Ben McAdoo said earlier that he was “still being evaulted.’’

It’s possible Marshall Newhouse could regain his starting spot from Bobby Hart at right tackle.

“We will take a look at a couple different guys [Saturday] and will see how they perform in practice,’’ McAdoo said.
