Woody a Jet-set ambassador

Jets owner Woody Johnson will be the new US ambassador to the United Kingdom, Donald Trump announced on Thursday.

Trump, speaking at a luncheon for supporters in Washington, DC, introduced a guest as “sitting next to the ambassador Woody Johnson, going to Saint James [the UK]. Congratulations, Woody.”

Johnson (right), 69, a Republican donor, has been under consideration for the post since December, as revealed by Page Six.

“This post is an appreciation of Woody’s support by Trump,” a source close to John- son said. “Even though Woody had initially backed Jeb Bush, once Bush was out of the race, Woody was one of the few people in the establishment who then supported Trump.”

The source added, “He has a real appreciation for the UK culturally, and the Jets played there last year.”
