Aussie driver’s death rampage
A motorist on Friday deliberately drove down a pedestrian-only thoroughfare in Australia’s second-largest city, killing at least three people and injuring 20 others, police said.
Officials said the incident had no links to terrorism.
The chaos began in the early afternoon after the man was seen driving in circles in a major intersection in Melbourne.
The driver then turned into the Bourke Street Mall, deliberately striking shoppers before mounting a sidewalk and hitting more strollers, said Victoria state Police Acting Commander Stuart Bateson.
The man was arrested at the scene and there was no further threat to the public, Bateson said.
Police believe the incident was somehow connected to a stabbing that had occurred in the city earlier in the day.
