NOLA’s risky cop recruits

Nearly 60 recent of the recruits in the New Orleans Police Department’s training academy were accepted despite red flags for “risk factors,” including possible drug use, unpaid child support and domestic abuse, according to federal monitors.

Their report, filed Thurs- day in US District Court, was the latest black eye for a department working to beef up manpower and reverse decades of scandals.

The monitors stopped short of saying unfit officers are being trained and hired, but it listed more than a dozen “risk factors” in recruit records.
