Club faces uncertain future
THE future of Meatpacking hot spot Provocateur is up in the air. Nightlife insiders are buzzing that the club in the Gansevoort Hotel — that has been known as a New York Fashion Week party destination — is in danger of closing after its co-owner Michael Satsky had a “big falling out” with Gansevoort Hotel Group co-owner Michael Achenbaum. “Achenbaum has been trying to get [Satsky] out. He wants to bring rooftop with pool to that space,” a source told Page Six, adding the club could be in “foreclosure.” Another source familiar with the situation explained, “They’re not being foreclosed. There is some kind of dispute based around the new lease they signed.” Provocateur’s landlord Jeffrey Chodorow of China Grill Management told us: “I can’t comment on this, except to say I’m talking to them constructively about the status of things.” The club is currently closed, but remains hopeful it will reopen soon. “Provocateur New York is working with CGM on a landlord/tenant issue and is optimistic it will be resolved quickly,” a rep for the club said.
