‘Body-slam’ girls to sue cops

- Emily Saul

Two Brooklyn schoolgirls have filed a multimilliondollar notice of claim against the NYPD after they allegedly were body slammed by two cops.

Akirah Taylor and Breeyana Birkett, both 17, were running late to class on Jan. 11 when they were approached by two unnamed female officers who tried to arrest them for truancy, despite the teens being only a block from Cobble Hill School for American Studies, according to court papers filed by their attorney, Abe George.

The girls were “thrown to the ground” and Taylor broke her arm, the notice says, after which the teens were detained for 14 hours.

The girls’ families are calling for the suspension of the cops and for obstruction of governmental administration charges to be dropped against the teens.

Taylor is requesting $2 million in damages, and Birkett $1 million.
