Obama’s Final Disgrace: Setting a Terrorist Free
President Obama’s commutation of Oscar López Rivera’s sentence is not only disgraceful, but a true act of cruelty toward his victims and their families (“FALN terror big’s break,” Jan. 18).
He isn’t even repentant. Characterizing López Rivera as a “freedom fighter” insults the very term. The FALN were hard-core Communists who would’ve imposed a much more repressive regime. If the Puerto Rican people wanted full independence, it was readily attainable by legal, nonviolent means. Marc S. Russo Brooklyn
The FALN terrorist set free by Obama is his last slap in the face at us.
New Yorkers were killed because of this guy. No one should go free who has taken the life of one American by terror.
Wonder why Trump was elected, Democrats? It’s acts like these that put us over the edge. I can’t believe all the pardons Obama has granted. What, no Medal of Freedom for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad? D. Mann Long Island
Thoroughly enthralled with the opportunity to take one more swipe at America and the US military, President Obama shows his contempt for both by commuting the sentences of Chelsea Manning and López Rivera.
In his own mind, Obama’s legacy is a utopian dream-world; in reality, it’s one of petulance, narcissism and divisiveness. When the self-important community organizer writes his first book in retirement, he should title it: “The Audacity of Arrogance.” James McCaffrey Yonkers
The perfect bookend to an anti-American presidency: It started with a groveling tour of the Middle East and ends with clemency to a traitor and a terrorist. Adios Obama.
Welcome, Trump. Bradley Morris Astoria
You can be sure if Trump pardoned Manning and López Rivera, there would be a major outcry for his impeachment. But because Obama decided to shake it up before he left office, it’s acceptable. Donna Goddard Holbrook
