Trump’s Moment of Truth
Of course Donald Trump is calm; he has no idea of what his job really entails, and no sense of shame (“Surprise: Trump is ... calm,” Michael Goodwin, Jan. 18).
Goodwin says that many public figures would indeed be “in the fetal position if they had taken half the pounding he’s endured during the last 18 months.”
In praising this, Goodwin too fails to understand the enormous qualifications and brainpower required of the president. We are all in fetal positions now. Trump is “standing strong in a world gone mad”? No, we are the sane ones, unfortunately — his rendezvous with history is our doom to come. Susan Silver Manhattan
I read with fascination Goodwin’s piece about Trump’s calm demeanor.
One sentence caught me: “Tested by fire, he is calm, confident and ready for action as he approaches his rendez- vous with history.”
May I suggest that Goodwin do a follow-up that looks at all of Trump’s tests? A thorough analysis of Trump’s hard-scrabble upbringing and tooth-and-nail fight to the top with nothing but his own moxie to guide and comfort him.
That would make a great read about the great man we elected both fairly and squarely. John Ziggenfutsch The Bronx
