Harry Minor, a Mets scout who played a crucial role in the building of the 1986 championship team, died on Wednesday. He was 89.
A Mets employee from 1968-2011, Minor received the 2013 Mets Hall of Fame Achievement Award for service to the organization. He was named the Scout of the Year in 1996 and was presented with the George Genovese Lifetime Achievement Award in Scouting from the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation in 2007.
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of … Harry Minor,” Mets CEO Fred Wilpon said in a statement. “Harry was a key part of our organization for many years. He helped build our championship teams in the ’80s, including the World Series team in 1986.
“Harry was a Mets legend who touched the lives of countless players, including those he scouted such as Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry and Mookie Wilson among others. We extend our condolences to his wife, Liz and son, Bob.”
