Manziel admits ‘I was a douche’

- By JACLYN HENDRICKS jhendricks@nypost.com

It took only 19 days into the new year for Johnny Manziel to have an epiphany.

On Thursday, the former Browns quarterback addressed his misdeeds from last year in a series of tweets to his 1.7 million followers, and seemed to admit to being an alcoholic.

He wrote, “Admitting is the first step,” which is straight out of the AA handbook, and closed one message with the hashtag #LostInTheSauce.

“No lie ... I was a douche in 2016 I’m just trying to be a good PERSON,” Manziel tweeted.

“Haven’t been this happy in a long time man. I appreciate all the people in my life who reached out during the truly rough patches in ’16,” he continued.

The Heisman Trophy winner was cut by Cleveland last March following two rough NFL seasons littered with reports of substance abuse and legal dramas.

Manziel, 24, was charged with assaulting ex-girl- friend Colleen Crowley during an argument last January. He agreed to a deal with prosecutors in December to get misdemeanor charges dropped.

One of the conditions of the deal includes participating in the NFL’s substance-abuse program or something similar.

“Have to live these words not just TWEET them,” he wrote Thursday.

Manziel told TMZ this week he is working out five to six days a week. Manziel also dismissed reports he’s charging $50 for selfies at the Super Bowl next month.
