KP back at ‘100 percent’

- By FRED KERBER

Kristaps Porzingis feared the worst, but then heard the best news.

Porzingis went for an MRI exam Thursday on his ailing left Achilles tendon that had kept him out of seven games, including the previous four. But Porzingis heard only positive news: there was no structural damage and he was cleared to play, although he did not start Thursday’s 113-110 loss to the Wizards at the Garden.

“I’m 100 percent. I’m back. It feels good and I’m excited,” Porzingis said before the game. “I couldn’t even have a nice nap. I couldn’t fall asleep, I was so excited.”

Coach Jeff Hornacek promised limited doses for Porzingis, who posted 29 minutes, scored 15 points and electrified the Garden with a put-back dunk in the fourth quarter that brought the Knicks within 104-95.

“I felt good. When I played I didn’t think about it at all the Achilles and I felt good. I’m happy I had no issue,” Porzingis said.

“He had energy,” said Hornacek. “Not too many minutes with the Achilles, but he looked good.”

The news wasn’t as uplifting, at least for the present, for Joakim Noah. The center, who sat out Wednesday’s win in Boston, had an MRI exam on his left ankle. The test indicated a sprain and Noah also sat against the Wizards. Hornacek said Noah would get “hopefully treatments,” and he hopes to have the center back Saturday against the Suns.

The Knicks lost for the first time in six games without Noah.

“Coincidence?” Hornacek said of the positive record without the former Defensive Player of the Year. “I don’t know. Sometimes guys, when guys are out, the other guys see it as an opportunity and maybe they play better when something like that happens. Could be the teams we play.”

Carmelo Anthony was not voted an All-Star starter — he expected that — but he still hopes to make the team. Reserves will be named next week.

“Yeah, of course, I would love to represent New York in an All-Star Game,” Anthony said. “I wasn’t depending on you guys [the media] to vote me in to be honest, to be quite honest.”
