Film serves satisfied stars
MICHAEL Keaton showed off his latest film “The Founder” — about Ray Kroc, the salesman who built McDonald’s from a burger stand into a fastfood empire — at a Cinema Society screening at the Roxy on Wednesday. The starry crowd included Gina Gershon, Brian d’Arcy James and Kathleen Turner. Keaton joked, “When you walk out, pick up a ticket. Everyone here tonight . . . gets a McDonald’s franchise.” The movie details how Kroc franchised the burger brand and eventually took over the company from the two brothers who started the restaurant. “This is a really interesting story about the free enterprise system, capitalism in America — and we are living in some interesting times right now,” Keaton said at the screening. Later at a Grey Goose-sponsored after-party, Keaton’s co-star Patrick Wilson told us, “If Hillary [ Clinton] had won, I think this movie would have played differently. It’s capitalism at its worst and at its best . . . but there is something in this movie for everybody, no matter what side of the fence you are on.” The film’s been compared to a fast-food version of David Fincher’s Facebook film, “The Social Network.” [See “The Founder” review Page 35.]
