O’s mercy is tainted

Besides Chelsea Manning, outgoing President Obama ended or reduced the federal prison sentences of 1,384 other inmates and granted 212 pardons — setting a new record.

Most of the commutations went to minority nonviolent drug offenders. But many of them sold garbage. Some carried firearms.

This week, he agreed to free Manning in May, after she serves about seven years of her 35-year prison term for handing some 700,000 classified materials to WikiLeaks when she was an Army intelligence analyst who went by the name Bradley Manning. The damage the suicidal traitor caused is enormous — notably endangering US soldiers’ lives.

Obama’s clemency craze hurts us all.
