Rutgers gets past Nebraska

Rutgers finally put together a 40-minute game in conference play, and coach Steve Pikiell earned his first Big Ten win with a 65-64 nail-biting victory over Nebraska on Saturday in Piscataway.

Corey Sanders scored a seasonhigh 25 points, including the gamewinner with one second left.

Sanders stole a ball that bounced off Nebraska’s Tai Webster’s foot with 12 seconds to play. Following a timeout, Sanders drove to the basket, corralled his own rebound and gave Rutgers (12-8, 1-6 Big Ten) the lead.

Fordham 71, UMass 68

In Amherst, Mass., Chris Sengfelder scored 20 points, including two free throws with three seconds left after intercepti­ng an inbounds pass, as Fordham prevailed.

Niagara 57, Saint Peter’s 55

In Jersey City, Matt Scott scored 15 points and had eight rebounds and Marvin Prochet totaled 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Niagara.

Wagner 67, Sacred Heart 62

Michael Carey scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Wagner pulled away late.

Navy 96, Army 80

In West Point, Shawn Anderson scored a career-high 30 points, Bryce Dulin tallied 21 points and 17 rebounds, and Navy outscored Army 21-5 in overtime to salvage a victory after the Midshipmen lost a 10-point lead in the final minute of regulation.

Mount St. Mary’s 55, St. Francis 47

In Brooklyn, Junior Robinson scored 19 points and Mount St. Mary’s held off St. Francis.

Hofstra 78, Northeaste­rn 73

In Hempstead, Justin WrightFore­man hit 11 of 15 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers, and tied a career-high with 30 points, Deron Powers converted a three-point play with 17 seconds left as Hofstra held on.

Fairleigh Dickinson 83, LIU 66

In Teaneck, Darian Anderson scored 25 points as Fairleigh Dickinson ended LIU Brooklyn’s sixgame winning streak.

Cornell 67, Columbia 62

In Manhattan, Matt Morgan scored 17 points including a 3pointer and two free throws in the final 1:36 as Cornell held off Columbia.
