Thomas still dealing with headaches

- By MARC BERMAN

INDIANAPOLIS — Lance Thomas has a new mask fitting just right but won’t suit up until his headaches go away.

Thomas confirmed he wasn’t diagnosed with a concussion but is nursing a lingering headache due to the fractured orbital bone suffered eight days ago in Toronto by a wild Jonas Valuncianis elbow to the face.

In passing the concussion protocol twice, Thomas is good to go but can’t workout diligently until his head feels better.

“I’m getting my headaches from the actual fracture,’’ Thomas said Monday before the Knicks faced the Pacers. “It’s in a tight spot. A lot of pressure in the area is causing it. It’s getting better. Once it goes away I can do more things with conditioning. Until it happens, it’s hard for me to keep my eyes open.’’

In his first remarks to reporters since the accident, Thomas thought the worst at impact.

“I thought my teeth were falling out,’’ Thomas said. “I was literally holding my mouthguard up because I thought my teeth were falling out. It was a hard hit.’’

The Toronto center has yet to apologize, but Thomas said he’s OK with it because “it wasn’t intentional.’’

Thomas, who has trouble watching game film because of his condition, shot free throws with his mask on during Monday’s morning shootaround and during pregame warmups at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

“It’s an adjustment but it fits like a glove,’’ the reserve forward said. “The peripheral vision is good.” Point guard Brandon Jennings and Indiana’s Joe Young were together again just two weeks after their last-minute skirmish led to their ejections. “He didn’t say anything to me — he knew better,’’ Jennings said.

Willy Hernangomez (14 points, 10 rebounds) has two double-doubles in the last three games he’s played. ... The Knicks have won two straight road games and play in Dallas on Wednesday. It was their first victory in Indiana after nine straight regular-season losses dating to 2012.
