President Trump pledged to rebuild the military during a stop Monday at Central Command in Tampa, Fla. (pictured), where he also accused the “the very, very dishonest press” of not reporting all terrorist incidents.

“Radical Islamic terrorists are determined to strike our homeland as they did on 9/11, as they did from Boston to Orlando to San Bernardino. and all across Europe — you have seen what happened in Paris and Nice,” Trump told members of the military.

“It’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported, and in many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons and you understand that.”

White House spokesman Sean Spicer later explained that Trump believes that terrorist attacks have been underreported.

“He felt members of the media don’t always cover some of those events to the extent that other events might get covered. Protests will get blown out of the water [out of proportion], and yet an attack or a foiled attack doesn’t necessarily get the same coverage,” Spicer said.

Asked for specific examples, Spicer responded, “We’ll provide a list later. There’s several instances.”

The White House later did provided a list. It included the 2015 San Bernardino, Calif., attack and the 2016 Pulse nightclub assault in Orlando, Fla., which killed a combined 63 people and were covered exten-

sively. Others were minor incidents abroad, many nonfatal.

In his remarks, Trump also vowed to rebuild the military and defeat ISIS.

“To these forces of death and destruction: America and its allies will defeat you. We will defeat them . . . and we will not allow them to take root in this country,” Trump said of ISIS.

“You’ve been lacking equipment. We’re going to load it up. We’re gonna be loading it up with beautiful new equip- ment,” he added.

“We have your back, every hour, every day, now and always. That also means getting our allies to pay their fair share.”

He added, “We fully support NATO,” an alliance he criticized during the campaign.

The president also used his remarks to take a victory lap, rallying the assembled troops by saying, “We had a wonderful election, didn’t we?”
