LeBron: Carmelo for Love report is ‘trash’

- By MARC BERMAN

Carmelo Anthony stood by his locker, all dressed, when reporters were let in Monday night. That’s only shocking because he usually is dead last to speak — the media sometimes waiting upward of an hour.

Though he explained that his son was waiting for him, Anthony clearly couldn’t wait to leave the Knicks locker room after their season’s worst outing — a 121-107 thumping by the lowly Lakers.

As Anthony waited to speak to reporters, a report surfaced suggesting LeBron James still is suggesting Cavaliers management trade Kevin Love for Anthony. The report was roundly shot down in Cleveland with ESPN Cleveland, the Cleveland Plain Dealer and FOX Sports’ Chris Broussard citing sources who called the report false.

“The report is trash, and the guy who wrote it is trash, too,” James said after the Cavaliers’ 140-135 overtime road win over the Wizards.

And if Monday’s game wasn’t impetus for Anthony to waive his no-trade clause if Phil Jackson comes up with something, then nothing will be.

“Our mentality and our attitude throughout the course of the game, approaching the game, I think that has to change,” Anthony said. “Overall it wasn’t there. I don’t want to get into details or point out things. Overall, the effort just wasn’t there tonight from beginning to end. The effort wasn’t there. It was in spurts. The effort wasn’t there.”

Asked whether this loss affects his future, Anthony, who played well offensively with 26 points, said, “I’m not thinking about it.”

The Cavaliers apparently weren’t thinking about it either.

“Yeah, we’re going to trade him tonight,” Cavaliers coach Tyonn Lue said Monday of Love. “Come on, man, he’s not going anywhere.”

According to a source, the Cavaliers have laughed off the Knicks’ attempts at landing Love.

“It’s a lie,’’ Love told reporters Monday. “What do they say? A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to put its pants on.”
