Obama’s Never-Ending 2¢: Why Can’t He Just Go Away?

-

Paul Sperry’s column paints a sad and very troubling image of former President Barack Obama (“He won’t Barack down,” Feb. 13).

It looks like Obama remains as determined as ever to fundamentally change America. The only difference is that he’s no long president. He’ll have to revert to his former expertise as a community organizer to accomplish it. Bob Moffitt Sloatsburg

Sperry’s article comes as no surprise to anyone who knows the real Obama.

He’s a community activist and disciple of leftist radical Saul Alinsky.

The Alinsky model is for the community organizer to find and mobilize the poor, the oppressed and the victimized to “build a power base” to disrupt and bring down the system. Michael Clarke Brentwood Sperry’s column is exactly the kind of Trum- pian propaganda (or “Trumpaganda”) that Americans need to fight against.

Sperry claims that Obama is setting up a “shadow government” within two miles of the White House with the intent to “sabotage the incoming administration and its popular ‘America First’ agenda.”

Obama, like any citizen, has a First Amendment right to express his opinion. People pay attention to him because he’s still extremely pop- ular. And his house is in Washington, DC, so his younger daughter can finish high school there. This does not make his home there a “second White House.”

Sperry only hurts his cause by being dishonest about Obama’s postpresidency activities. Joshua Hurwitz Niles, Ill.

After reading Sperry’s article about Obama setting up shop in DC to battle for his legacy and organize protests against President Trump and his policies, I thought of another president, Jimmy Carter, who had an unremarkable presidency followed by a strong president — Ronald Reagan.

Rather than criticize Reagan, Carter focused on charity work after he left office. Maybe Carter could sit down with Obama and explain to him how to be respected and loved after you leave office. Peter Orsi Brooklyn
