MLB: Padres, Weaver agree to one-year pact

Right-hander Jered Weaver has agreed to a $3 million, one-year deal with the Padres after 11 seasons with the Angels. Weaver and the Padres confirmed the long-anticipate­d deal Saturday, pending a physical.

The 34-year-old had spent his entire career with the Angels, going 150-93 with a 3.55 ERA and three All-Star selections.

Chase Utley officially has returned to the Dodgers, agreeing to a oneyear, $2 million contract. Utley says he received two other offers but decided on the Dodgers because of the club’s chemistry. He batted .252 over 138 games for the Dodgers last season.

Toronto slugger Josh Donaldson missed the team’s first full-squad workout Saturday because of a calf injury.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said the third baseman tweaked his right calf while running sprints a day earlier. He was scheduled for an MRI exam and further evaluation. Donaldson injured the same calf last April but did not miss any significan­t time.

Clayton Kershaw will make his seventh straight Opening-Day start for the Dodgers, tying Don Sutton’s franchise record.

The Reds expect outfielder Ryan Raburn to pass a physical and sign a minor league deal Sunday, giving them another player to compete for a role off the bench.

The 35-year-old Raburn has played for the Tigers, Indians and Rockies. Last season with Colorado, he batted .220 with nine homers and 30 RBIs in 113 games. GOLF: Hot finish gives Johnson second-round lead at rainy Genesis Dustin Johnson finished with three birdies over his last four holes Saturday for another 5-under 66 to take a one-shot lead after 36 holes of the raindelaye­d Genesis Open in Los Angeles. Heavy rain across southern California wiped out seven hours of play Friday and caused a two-hour delay Saturday morning. Pat Perez birdied the last two holes for a 66 and was one shot behind, along with Cameron Tringale (64). Miguel Angel Jimenez birdied two of the last four holes to take a one-stroke lead over Fred Couples and Kevin Sutherland into the final round of the Chubb Classic.

Jimenez birdied the par-4 15th and par-5 17th in a bogey-free 5-under 67 that got him to 12-under 132 in the PGA Tour Champions event at The TwinEagles Club in Naples, Fla.

In Perth Australia, Brett Rumford of Australia shot a 4-under 68 to lead the World Super 6 tournament by five strokes and guarantee himself a bye in the first round of match play. Rumford had a 17-under total of 199 in the tournament at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in Western Australia. NHL: Oilers win third straight, McDavid scores 20th Cam Talbot made 38 saves, Connor McDavid scored his 20th goal and the Oilers beat the Blackhawks 3-1 on Saturday night in Chicago for their third straight win. Matt Benning and Milan Lucic also scored for Edmonton. McDavid, who leads the NHL in points, fired into an empty net with 27 seconds left.

In Dallas, Antoine Roussel had his first career hat trick, Jamie Benn scored 3:47 into overtime and the Stars rallied to beat the Lightning, 4-3.

In Detroit, Henrik Zetterberg scored a tiebreakin­g goal on Detroit’s fifth shootout attempt and then Petr Mrazek stopped Alex Ovechkin, sending the Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Capitals.

In Montreal, Patrik Laine and the Jets spoiled Claude Julien’s return to Montreal. Laine and Mathieu Perreault each had a goal and an assist, leading the Jets to a 3-1 victory over the Canadiens. NFL: Dolphins extend defensive end Wake The Dolphins have signed defensive end Cameron Wake to a two-year contract extension. The 35-year-old is coming off a Pro Bowl season, one year removed from an Achilles tendon injury.
