Jennings trying to clear his head

- By MARC BERMAN

The mystery is solved. Sort of. Entering the All-Star break, Brandon Jennings was a late scratch from the Knicks game in Oklahoma City with a sore left Achilles, forcing him to miss his first game of the season. Soon after, Jennings made his Twitter account private and removed any references to the Knicks as he chartered a jet with Derrick Rose, headed for Los Angeles.

With his expiring contract worth just $5 million, the theory flowed the Knicks were working on a Jennings deal. The Knicks’ next game isn’t until Thursday night — hours after the 3 p.m. trade deadline. Jennings, who had Achilles tendon surgery two years ago, said the soreness occurred from the overload of minutes he had played leading up to the game.

“Just needed a break from it,’’ Jennings said of Twitter. “As a Knick player you get all sorts of weird tweets. You play for the Knicks. You’re going to get a lot of tweets. A lot. I just wanted to get off social media for a minute, that’s all. I was able to clear my head.”

If there’s a trade in the works, Jennings hasn’t been advised.

“I think I’m going to be here,’’ he said. “I hope I’m here. That’s the plan. I haven’t heard anything. Got to keep showing up every day.’’

Neither Phil Jackson nor general manager Steve Mills watched practice Wednesday. Jennings could be a long-shot option to resign if the Knicks are desperate at point guard and they can get him at a reasonable rate. Jennings signed a modest deal as Rose’s backup to prove his health and lift his market value, but he would consider re-signing.

“The first half of the season was definitely different — something I never experienced — with everything off the court and drama,’’ Jennings said. “I got past that. Now it’s just play basketball and try these last months to make this push for the playoffs.”

SG Courtney Lee missed his second straight practice with an illness and appears doubtful for Thursday’s game in Cleveland. The Knicks already will be without starting center Joakim Noah, who reinjured his hamstring in the final practice before the break and will miss his sixth straight game. Noah didn’t practice Wednesday.
