DNA clue in death of company manager

Massachusetts cops scored a major break in their probe of a New York Google manager’s murder last summer, and now have the potential killer’s DNA, authorities said Thursday.

The scientific evidence now has police on the hunt for a Latino man in connection to the Aug. 7 murder of Vanessa Marcotte, according to prosecutors and a Virginia lab.

“We feel this DNA is from our person of interest.” Worcester DA Joseph Early said. “I think it’s very significant.”

Marcotte (inset) was killed while visiting her mom in Princeton, about 17 miles north of Worcester.

Based on witness accounts, investigators said the suspect had a shaved head or short hair, is about 30, is of average height, with an athletic build and was driving a dark-colored SUV.

“There are people that have perceptions, for example, of what that person might have looked like, what race he might be. We’re kind of narrowing this down, tailoring this to this specific person,” Early said. “I think this is very beneficial.”

The killer could have also had scratches on his face, neck, arms, hands and upper body, officials said.

“We want to do everything we can to find this killer,” the DA said.

While Early declined to reveal exactly how or where investigators found the suspect’s DNA, he hinted: “I can’t speak to that [where the DNA was found], but he [the suspect] did have a lot of scratches.”

Marcotte, 27, went out for a jog between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 7, police said. The Google employee’s body was found in nearby woods about a half-mile away at 8:20 p.m. that day.

“We have received over 1,300 tips in regard to this homicide,” the DA said. “This person of interest should not be confronted by anyone in the public.”

Marcotte grew up in nearby Leominster, Mass., and had been working as an account manager for Google in New York.

“We have the person’s DNA. We have a DNA profile. We don’t have their name,” Early said.

Marcotte’s murder occurred five days after Queens jogger Karina Vetrano was killed in Howard Beach. While the murders were 200 miles apart, cops still looked for any possible connections.

Early said Thursday the DNA collected in Marcotte’s killing does not match Chanel Lewis, who has been arrested for Vetrano’s murder.
