Sanctuary-City Rules Make New York Less Safe

THE ISSUE: Mayor de Blasio’s refusal to help federal officials deport illegal immigrants with criminal records.

-

The Trump administration is missing a big opportunity to quash sanctuary cities if the Department of Justice does not charge city (and state) officials with obstruction of justice each time they refuse to hand over illegal immigrants to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement unit (“Defied feds’ bid to deport gang inmate,” Feb. 22).

It’s clear obstruction when somebody attempts to prevent an illegal from being deported. Larry Howard The Bronx

This is madness, even by liberal standards. So, we are being told by Mayor de Blasio & Co. that it’s OK to release potentially dangerous illegal immigrants into our society. I guess that would be true if we all had armed security guards, 24/7 like he does.

He is taking the “limousine liberal” label and blowing it off the chart.

That a resident of the city, which he is, can’t see the danger to the average citizen is very troubling. The lawlessness will spread like a plague.

This misguided thinking must be stopped if America is to remain a safe and prosperous nation. Kenneth P. Lebeck Plainview

As a retired police sergeant, I was appalled that an illegal-immigrant gang member was allowed to walk free out of Rikers Island under Mayor de Blasio’s sanctuary-city rules, in defiance of a reported federal pe- tition to hold the gang member for deportation.

It’s clear to see how being a sanctuary city is potentially dangerous. Governments at all levels should be working together.

With the likes of de Blasio, and my own mayor, Marty Walsh (who has offered his City Hall office as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants), these politically correct policies are making our cities unsafe. Sal Giarratani Boston, Mass.

I propose a “Sanctuary Tax” for all registered Democrats who believe in sanctuary cities.

This will be to pay for all the services that illegal immigrants use. Taxes on all Republicans should be reduced.

I predict that hypocritical Democrats will never put their own money where their mouths are. Tom Scott Spotswood, NJ
