KP’s weird tweet gets even weirder defense

- By MARC BERMAN

Kristaps Porzingis shed his walking boot for slippers Friday at practice.

He won’t be playing against the 76ers on Saturday night, missing his ninth game of the season because of his newly sprained right ankle.

Porzingis also won’t be explaining the odd diagram he posted on Twitter late Thursday night, depicting a straight path with the words “Your plan” and then one with peaks and valleys with the word “Reality.”

In the locker room in Cleveland late Thursday, Porzingis was asked about the rocky path he has had this season — the losing, the Achilles tendinitis, the bouts with stomach illness. He gave a long answer about having to “accept these challenges.”

For emphasis, the weird illustration appeared on his Twitter account, but was deleted within minutes, presumably because it conveyed too much despair.

Porzingis blushed and kept smiling when he talked about the post and denied he did it.

“I don’t remember. What are you talking about? I don’t remember, honestly,” Porzingis said. “Maybe somebody from my team, my people posted that. I don’t know. I have no idea.”

Asked if he doesn’t have control of his account, Porzingis said, “I control it, but stuff happens. Stuff gets posted. No big deal.”

Porzingis’ unusual reaction led some to believe he thought he was being asked about the recent Instagram post in which he was flirting with a famous internet model.

Either way, Porzingis wouldn’t rule out returning to action Monday against the Raptors, because the swelling had gone down. He also is trying to get rid of the clunky walking boot he donned in the Cleveland locker room after sitting out the second half of Thursday’s loss to the Cavaliers.

“They may want me to wear it, but it’s too dramatic,” Porzingis said.

The trade deadline passed without drama, and Porzingis was not surprised.

“That’s what we all thought,” Porzingis said. “People that are in charge decided not to do any moves. I wasn’t too worried about it.”

Porzingis does not yet want to embrace the notion he will have played two seasons without one playoff game under his belt.

“With every game, it’s looking tougher and tougher as we keep losing,” Porzingis said. “Until we mathematically have [no] chance to make it, we’ll still keep believing we can make the playoffs.” ➤

Joakim Noah will miss a seventh straight game with a hamstring strain, his first season in New York an ongoing $72 million disaster. Noah declined comment.
