Rick Pitino compared Michigan to the Golden State Warriors after the Wolverines drilled 16 3-pointers in the first round, but unlike Oklahoma State, Louisville knows how to play defense. The Cardinals have held opponents to 65.8 points per game, a far cry from the 92 points Michigan racked up Friday.

Score one for the analytics. After Wichita St. drew a 10-seed despite being considered one of the top-10 teams in the nation according to advanced metrics, the Missouri Valley champs went out and beat Dayton to secure a rematch with Kentucky, which toppled the No. 1 Shockers in the 2014 tournament.

(1) Kansas vs. (9) Michigan St. 5:15 p.m., CBS

Tom Izzo’s done it again. Unimpressive during the regular season, Michigan State blew out Miami on Friday, getting a combined 50 points from freshmen Miles Bridges, Nick Ward and Josh Langford. They’ll need that type of production against No. 1 Kansas, which was bolstered by the return of Josh Jackson off a one-game suspension.

(3) Oregon vs. (11) Rhode Island, 7:10 p.m., TBS

A Hurley in the NCAA Tournament just sounds right. This time it’s Dan Hurley, Rhode Island’s coach, leading the Rams to their first NCAA Tournament win since 1998. Their reward is a date with Oregon, which rolled past Iona in the first round.

(3) Baylor vs. (11) USC, 7:45 p.m., truTV

USC was the third — and most surprising — No. 11 seed to advance, making a furious second-half comeback to top SMU. The Trojans are looking to become the latest team to go from the First Four to the Sweet 16. Baylor, meanwhile, avoided losing to double-digit seeds in the first round for the third year in a row.

(3) UCLA vs. (6) Cincinnati, 9:40 p.m., TBS

UCLA looked its typically dominant self on offense in a first-round win over Kent State, but its defensive effort left a lot to be desired. That could be the Bruins’ downfall against Cincinnati, which has added an improved offense to its annually stout defensive effort. If the Bruins go down early, Lonzo Ball’s father will be eating crow for years.
