Hey, fix Rikers already: Cuomo

Gov. Cuomo took another swipe at Mayor de Blasio’s handling of Rikers Island Sunday, describing conditions there as “intolerable.”

“We’re not asking people to take a rocket to Mars . . . This is construction of a jail, right?” Cuomo said at an unrelated press conference in The Bronx.

“The situation is intolerable and something has to be done.”

De Blasio spokesman Eric Phillips responded sarcastically, “Rikers’ challenges are far from new. But, as someone who runs a state prison system defined by escapees, deplorable conditions and widespread racial bias, we welcome the governor to the conversation.”
