Straphangers rail against fare hike

- Kristina Narizhnaya, Reuven Fenton

New Yorkers were predictably sore about the fare hikes that went into effect Sunday — saying the annoyances of subway commuting remain the same while the cost to ride keeps rising.

“You get less bang for your buck,” groused 41-year-old stage hand Ray Nieto, who commutes daily from Greenpoint, Brooklyn. “It’s just going up and up. ”

Cecilie Barnor, 37, a program manager from The Bronx, fumed, “They keep raising the fare, but the service is horrible, especially on the weekend.”

While a single ride remains at $2.75, monthly MetroCards now cost $121.00, verses $116.50, and a weekly rises $1 to $32. The mass-purchase single-fare bonus has been reduced.
