Short, selective memory

-

NOW THAT “the game has changed,” how often will you hear this season that Giancarlo Stanton was lost to the Marlins for much of last season due to an injury, one that took Florida out of contention?

Two hundred times? Three hundred?

How many times will you hear that the injury came late in a close game when he chose to jog to first until he saw that his high pop to right-center would drop before he turned it on, severely injuring his groin trying to reach second — where he already should have been standing?

Once? Twice? Maybe.

➤ Not one of Mike Francesa’s Final Four picks — Louisville, Wichita State, Notre Dame, Villanova — made the Sweet 16. He is gifted that way. What would seem impossible for other experts, Francesa did effortlessly, made it seem so easy.

➤ Reader Bill Chase on watching the NCAA Tournament: “Would you know who sponsors ‘The AT&T Halftime Report brought to you by AT&T’?” I think AT&T, Bill.

➤ In an age of phone apps and Twitter alerts, give me Gordon Damer of WCBS 880-AM every 15 minutes. His reports are fresh, concise, well written and he misses nothing — while his parenthetical info and comments add flavor.

AP ➤ Indefatigable Ch. 4 sports anchor Bruce Beck, Ithaca College 1978, has been honored with the school’s Jessica Savitch Award for excellence in journalism.

➤ While Spike Lee spends so much time popping off about the establishment’s racist inequities, come NCAA Tournament time he plays pay-me footsie with the establishment in those Capital One credit card commercials — not that anyone can discern the few words he mumbles.

➤ Baylor will be at the Garden on Friday to play in the Sweet 16. Some college, Baylor. Its basketball program produced the murderer of a teammate, while law enforcement should start charging the football program for DNA swab kits.

➤ That hot rumor about the Skins hiring Mike Mayock has cooled. Perhaps, suggests reader Don McKnight, Mayock tried to “leverage” too big an office, “as he operates better in space.”
