Owners exercising rights to not sign Kaepernick

-

SO IF I read this correctly, Colin Kaeper

nick has the right to exploit NFL games to demonstrate his social and political rights — no matter how infuriating — but NFL owners don’t have the right to not sign him because of it, not to mention his diminished performances as a QB.

Still, Kaepernick, in a football-first sense, is worth a shot, as he plays a position that summons the desperate. Though he comes with baggage he chose to pack himself, he is just 29.

But that is up to the team owners, including those who would spend millions to sign players with criminal convictions.

As for fans, it seems most have no trouble cheering all sorts of creeps, provided they’re

my team’s creeps. There is nothing so repugnant about Kaepernick that a few scrambling TD passes wouldn’t at least temporarily cure.

Look at Knicks fans. During training camp,

Joakim Noah refused West Point’s invite to dine with the cadets because he is “anti-war” — as if the U.S. military never has rescued the defenseless, including Noah’s French grandparents. It took one reg- ular-season rebound for Noah to be cheered.

Now? Knicks fans primarily dislike him, but only because he was a disappointing, expensive addition.

➤ In Sunday’s Post, Kevin Kernan wrote about NBA All-Star

Steve Mix moonlighting in retirement as an usher at Mets’ spring training games.

Two more things about Mix:

1) He holds the ABA record for the best career shooting percentage. Playing four minutes for the 1971-72 Denver Rockets, he was 1-for-1 and done.

The next year he was in the CBA, then began a nine-year career with the 76ers.

2) Mix was a tough, muscular 6-foot-7. Take it, Eddie Jordan:

“We were playing the Sixers when we’re lining up for a free throw. Mix is next to me. He says, ‘Hey, I heard you just lost one of your parents. That’s rough. I know the feeling. My condolences.’

“I say, ‘Thanks.’ Wow. What a nice thing to say. I’m really touched.

“The free-throw is off the rim, I jump for the long rebound, when wham, I’m on my back, seeing stars. I look up to see who hit me. Steve Mix.

“I was really touched — twice.”

➤ Real actors, not people: CBS News reported Tuesday on the Tom

Brady missing Super Bowl jersey caper by having a correspondent stand in the Patriots’ empty stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

Why not jog in place while reporting the results of the Boston Marathon?

Soon, with the start of baseball, local stations will dispatch reporters to stand outside Citi Field and Yankee Stadium — at 7 a.m.
