Gang Green grab former 49ers receiver Patton

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

No player left on the free-agent market could replace the firepower lost when receiver Brandon Marshall was released, but the Jets on Thursday did address their depleted receiver corps by signing Quinton Patton.

Patton visited the Jets’ facility Saturday, and this represents a reunion with offensive coordinator John Morton, who was Patton’s first NFL receivers coach with the 49ers. Morton, 26, was a 2013 fourth-round draft pick of the 49ers out of Louisiana Tech.

In 40 NFL games, all with the 49ers, Patton has 73 receptions for 880 yards and only one touch- down. He is coming off his best season — starting 14 games with a career-high 37 catches in 2016 for 408 yards.

The 6-foot, 204-pound Patton has been slowed by injuries. He missed his entire rookie season with a fractured foot and ended the 2016 season on injured reserve with a foot issue. Patton did have four catches against the Jets in a December overtime game won by the Jets.

After Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa, t he receiver position is in a state of flux with the Jets, who have several youngsters on the roster, including Robbie Anderson, Jalin Marshall and Devin Smith.

General manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles, along with pretty much everyone in the NFL, attended Ohio State’s pro day on Thursday. There always are a slew of prospects when the Buckeyes players are on display for NFL scouts.

Two players, cornerback Marshon Lattimore and safety Malik Hooker, are considered top-10 talents and are in play for the Jets, who have the No. 6-overall pick. Maccagnan has a history of liking Ohio State players — he took linebacker Darron Lee in the first round in 2016 and receiver Devin Smith in the second round in 2015.
