Mom: Driver took my only girl

A grieving mother whose year-old daughter was run over and killed by a pickup truck at a Queens intersection says the driver’s carelessness robbed her of her only child.

Fredrique Rowe, 24, was pushing Skylar Perkins (above) in a pink stroller across 23rd Avenue in East Elmhurst at 10:45 p.m. Thursday when Wallace Ramirez, 44, struck the buggy with his Dodge Ram while turning onto 94th Street, police said.

Skylar suffered severe head trauma and died at Elmhurst General Hospital.

Ramirez remained at the scene but only after Rowe banged on the side of the truck to stop him, she said.

“I just want to know what he was doing that he cannot pick up his head for a split second and see us walking in the crosswalk across the street,” she told The Post.

“I just don’t understand how he even hit her, and then [he tried] to keep going. I had to bang on the windows for [him] to stop.”

Ramirez was distraught when he realized what happened, a witness said.

“The driver got out and collapsed,” Leo Guerrero recalled. “He sat on the ground crying.”

Ramirez was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

But the charges provide little comfort to Rowe.

“I’m glad he’s arrested, but that’s not going to bring my daughter back,” she said. “I don’t have any other children, and now I have to find a way to cope.”
