The Joker would have asked: Why so serious?

Winchester, Va., cops have busted a man who they say was carrying a sword while dressed head-to-toe as Batman’s archenemy.

Jeremy Putnam — made up to resemble Heath Ledger’s Joker in 2008’s “The Dark Knight” — was arrested and charged Friday with wearing a disguise in public. In Virginia, going around in a mask is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Residents had made several phone calls to police Friday afternoon after spotting Putnam, 31, walking around in the getup, WHSV TV reported.

Earlier last week, cops got several other reports of a creepy clown making his way around town. They suspect Putnam is the culprit.

In the latest caper, Putman wore white face paint, black eye makeup, a red lipstick smile, dyed-green hair and blue contact lenses. He was also said to be wearing a cape.

He was jailed Saturday on $2,000 bond.

Ledger, who died in 2008, won a posthumous Oscar for his chilling take on the iconic 77-year-old comicbook villain — which included the memorable line, “Why so serious?”
