Sales tax on surgery – who knew?

-

Dear John: I had a $1,200 co-payment on surgery at NYU hospital, $78 of which went to NY state for sales tax — although I don’t think they called it that.

I was too preoccupied with the surgery to remember the name they gave this preposterous, outrageous tax.

Just wanted to tell someone. And, by the way, the surgery went well. J.G.

Dear J.G.: Glad to know whatever was wrong is now fixed.

I wonder if you can compare surgery prices on Trivago or Priceline. (Now there’s an idea for the next ambitious internet entrepreneur.)

Dear John: I’m hearing from people who should know something about a new form of money being launched that is supposed to totally tank our financial system. Do you have any info about it? B.Mc.

Dear B.Mc: Take the day off and you will feel better in the morning.
