Andy on roll in FDR Packard
Gov. Cuomo will get to drive the 1932 Packard owned by Franklin D. Roosevelt once the state finishes repairing the vehicle, which was removed from the New York State Museum Tuesday.
“It’s a cream puff,” Cuomo said. “Standard shift, 40,000 miles, good on gas. What more could you ask for?”
Cuomo admired the 12cylinder convertible Phaeton and announced that it will be used in parades and other events promoting New York history and tourism.
“We’re going to get her running and then we’ll use it for ‘I Love New York’ tourism, special events, and I think a lot of people would like to see it,” he said.
FDR drove the vehicle himself when he was governor, and it became part of the state fleet when he became president.
It last passed inspection in 1988 when Cuomo’s late father, Mario Cuomo, was governor.
