GOP: We will kill O’Care

- Marisa Schultz

The White House is holding discussions to replace ObamaCare, but there’s no “immediate strategy” to pass a new health-care plan, according to officials.

House Republicans huddled Tuesday for the first time since having to pull their health-care proposal Friday because the votes weren’t there. GOP leaders said they haven’t given up — and warned Democrats their joy over the plan’s demise last week will be short-lived.

“Their celebration is premature,” said House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.). “Because I think we are closer today to repealing ObamaCare than we’ve ever been before.”

Since the bill was pulled, President Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan have spoken “a few times” about how to move forward, said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. “Have we had discussions? Yes. Are we actively planning immediate strategy? Not at this time,” said Spicer.

During an bipartisan event with US senators at the White House Tuesday night, Trump said he was going to make a deal on health care “very quickly,” and expected it would include Democrats.

“I know that we’re all gonna make a deal on health care — that’s a very easy one,” Trump said.
