Pricey pop portrait
A Damien Hirst painting of George Michael sold for $580,000 at a gala for the MTV Staying Alive Foundation. The work was created by the UK artist for the event MTV RE:DEFINE, at the museum Dallas Contemporary. Michael’s partner, Kenny Goss, co-hosted the night, during which Chaka Khan performed and New York artist Eric Fischl was honored. Johnson Hartig — the Libertine designer who’s used Hirst prints on duds — DJ’d an ’80s-themed after-party. Over $2.7 million was raised for HIV/ AIDS prevention and awareness.
