The Real Point of ‘Fearless Girl’

-

How strong a symbol can a little girl be if she can’t stand alone (“You go, ‘Girl!’ Um, actually you stay,” March 27)?

Are we suggesting women can only stand against something, not for something? How insulting. Chuck Torbyn Staten Island

As its creator, Arturo Di Modica, intended, “Charging Bull” is a symbol of strength and prosperity — the very things America stands for.

It symbolizes that everyone, including women, can become whatever they want through strength and hard work. It is a positive message and very American.

The “Fearless Girl,” installed in front of the bull, is a publicity stunt without merit. Remove it. Kenneth P. Lebeck Plainview Mayor de Blasio’s de- cree to keep the statue of “Fearless Girl” until next February, even though it was only supposed to be there in observance of International Women’s Day, is pandering for votes.

If the statue is going to stay, it should stay there permanently and not be pulled away after the next election. Kim Cody Whitestone
