Irvin investigated for sexual assault
Former NFL star Michael Irvin is being investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a Florida hotel last week, police confirmed.
TMZ reported a 27-yearold Florida woman told police she and Irvin, 51, were at a bar in the early morning hours of March 21 and then returned to Irvin’s room at the W Fort Lauderdale.
Once inside the room, the woman said she began to feel sick and remembers fighting Irvin off before she woke up the next morning as the NFL Hall of Famer was getting ready to leave the hotel. The woman, who later took a medical exam, called 911 and told police she believed she was drugged and raped.
A spokesperson for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department confirmed to The Post that a sexual battery incident report was filed involving Irvin, but did not have details of the report.
“Please understand that this is an open investigation; therefore statements will not be given and the report, in its entirety, may not be available at this time,” the spokesperson wrote in an email to The Post.
Irvin, who works as an analyst at NFL Network following his 12-year career for the Cowboys, has denied the allegations through his attorney, claiming he was only in the room for 15 minutes with the woman and they had no sexual contact. Irvin also claims another man was in the room as well.
“The allegations are completely false,” Irvin’s attorney, Larry Friedman, told TMZ. “In the few hours since we’ve learned about them we’ve already discovered many red flags about this young woman’s background and the allegations she made against Michael. Even the complaint that she made specifically says she does not recall the events that took place. She was very drunk that night. Nothing happened and there was no assault.”
Sources told the website Irvin was at a bar with several people, including the alleged victim, until about 4:30 a.m. on March 21. Irvin returned to his room at that point, and the woman followed, according to the unnamed sources.
“Michael was in Fort Lauderdale visiting his nieces and nephews at a track meet,” Friedman said. “He was also visiting his 90year-old aunt and attending her birthday party. He was blindsided by news of these allegations.”
