F’BOOK RAPE ARREST

Boy, 14, charged

- By DAVID K. LI

Chicago cops have busted a 14-year-old boy in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl that was live-streamed over Facebook last month, authorities said Sunday. The boy is charged with felony sex assault and child pornography and was said to be one of five or six assailants who took part in the mid-March rape — which some 40 people watched over Facebook Live but never reported to authorities, according to police. Cops said they also have a warrant for the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in the attack. Speaking at a press conference Sunday, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson called the assault “absolutely horrific.” “The young men responsible should be ashamed of themselves,” he said. “They’ve humiliated themselves, humiliated their families, and now they’re going to be held accountable for what they did.” The 14-year-old was one of the attackers seen in the video, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. More arrests were expected as the traumatized girl continues to share details of the incident. “We have a very good idea of who these individuals are, but like I said, working with this victim at this time is very, very slow, and she doesn’t want to talk about what occurred for obvious reasons,” said Police Commander Brendan Deenihan.

“It’s very difficult, and she’s traumatized. She’s going to need help for a long time.”

The girl apparently knew one of her attackers.

“I don’t want to go too much into detail, but I’m going to say she was lured into the residence, and then from there she was not allowed to leave and she didn’t consent to what occurred,” Deenihan said.

Cops had not been aware of the attack until the girl’s mother approached Johnson on March 20 as he was leaving a police station and showed him the video.

Johnson chastised those who had watched the Facebook video.

“It just disgusts me that people can look at those videos and not pick up the phone and not dial 911,” the he said on Sunday.

When the mother approached Johnson, her daughter had gone missing. The teen was found the next day.

The mother said that her daughter had received online threats following the attack and that local kids were ringing the family’s doorbell looking for her.

The family has since been relocated.
