Let’s Stop These Mohels From Putting Kids at Risk
THE ISSUE: Mohels who perform a type of circumcision that has led to herpes in infant boys.
The circumcision ritual of metzitzah b’peh, which involves cleaning a circumcision wound by mouth, has been in place in Orthdox Jewish communities for so long, how are we just hearing about newborns being infected with and sometimes dying from the disease (“Protect the Newborn, Blas,” Editorial, March 30)?
It seems to me that religion is coming before the health of newborn babies.
Until the problem of newborns being infected is fixed, rabbis should be turning down requests for the metzitzah b’peh ritual; perhaps then the parents will acclimate and stop requesting the ritual be performed altogether. Carole Acker Briarwood
The Post’s editorial statement that Mayor de Blasio’s “current approach [to the circumcision ritual] is a joke” could be said about everything Comrade Bill touches.
From allowing newborns to be infected by mohels during circumcision, to an incompetent ACS failing to protect children, to protecting illegal immigrants, everything under de Blasio is dysfunctional. He panders to criminals and fails to support the NYPD.
The mayor will begin to care about children when they form a municipal union, contribute to his re-election campaign and promise to give him their votes. Elio Valenti Brooklyn
The mohels who are endangering children by infecting them with herpes during the circumcision ritual should be treated, and then arrested.
Infecting a child with a deadly disease does not fall under the protection of religious liberty.
The city tried to get the community to self-police, and it did not work.
These mohels infected with the disease endanger infants who belong to God. Protect the public. Peter J. Peirano Ridgewood
