Aviary perch for Circle hot spot

Chicago cult chef Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas are launching a New York outpost of their gamechanging cocktail bar, The Aviary, and its speakeasy sister, The Office.

Construction has begun at the Mandarin Oriental hotel at Columbus Circle, and both hot spots are slated to open this summer. The Aviary will seat 90 people and The Office 40. Both will be on the hotel’s 35th floor — 280 feet above street level.

“Because this is a hotel, their offerings will also include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Afternoon tea is still to be determined,” a hotel spokeswoman said.

Achatz, a threestar Michelin chef at Alinea, is known for his laboratory-like concoctions — think cocktails made with liquid nitrogen. The Aviary will ply this trade, while The Office plans classic cocktails and pricey spirits.

Here’s a new healthy option for the Garment District: Good Seed has opened at 313 W. 35th St.

The 3,200-square-foot space with 24 seats and window-bar seating for eight features local farmto-table dishes from owners Richard Greenstein, Howard Novick, Ronnie Portnoy and their kids: Daniel and Lee Novick, Daniel and Dayna Greenstein, and Eric Portnoy.

Dishes include a chimichurri steak salad with bacon, roasted mushrooms and greens, as well as ‘picnic basket’ options like herb-roasted chicken with kale salad and couscous; and salmon with turmeric- roasted cauliflower and apple zucchini quinoa.

Sauce, at 78 Rivington St., is opening LES Pizza this month — a takeout window adjacent to the restaurant, with outdoor seating for 10 in warm weather. The thin-crust low-calorie pizzas will come from Sauce’s kitchen.

Offerings include a blanco pie with mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, pecorino, kale and truffle oil along with a caprese pie, with tomato sauce, mozzarella, egg, pancetta, fontina, provolone and truffle oil.
