DREAMING BIG

Five steps for the Mets to win the World Series:

- —MikePuma

1. HEALTH IN THE ROTATION:

Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom pitching at a high level for close to a full season almost is a must. And then the Mets can piece together the rest, whether it’s Matt Harvey (below) rebounding from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, Robert Gsellman emerging as a top-flight starter or Zack Wheeler returning to form after two years on the sidelines following Tommy John surgery. Steven Matz and Seth Lugo will begin the season on the disabled list, but are important pieces.

2. TRAVIS D’ARNAUD GETS HIS ACT TOGETHER:

The Mets need another dependable right-handed bat, besides the one belonging to Yoenis Cespedes. If d’Arnaud can replicate his .825 OPS from 2015, the Mets might have an extremely deep lineup with no easy outs. D’Arnaud’s throwing is an issue but will become easier to stomach if he hits.

3. HANSEL ROBLES OR RAFAEL MONTERO EMERGES:

In a bullpen that will rely heavily on veterans Addison Reed and Jerry Blevins leading into Jeurys Familia, it would behoove the Mets to find a younger gun who can pitch important innings. Robles and Montero are the best bets to take the next step.

4. WILMER FLORES IMPROVES AGAINST RIGHTIES:

Flores is a key swingman in a veteran infield that will need rest. It’s conceivable Flores will play three or four days a week, backing up at each infield position. It means the Mets will need production against righties from Flores, who mashed lefties in 2016.

5. FINISH ABOVE .500 AGAINST THE NATIONALS:

Another 7-12 record against their chief NL East nemesis probably won’t cut it. The Mets have to figure out how to handle Daniel Murphy, but the rest of the lineup is formidable, with Trea Turner about to blossom into a star, joining Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon. The Mets learned last year that a wild-card berth leaves no room for error: One misstep and you’re finished. Winning the NL East is important.
